GREECE

Greetings from a sunny Greece. Its Friday and although I have been pretty slack lately, thought I would get back to routine and post :)
I arrived last night for a teachers conference. Its our Spring Break at school - we always try and work our calendar around the NESA Spring conference :) Andre has taken a little leave to be with the girls while I am away. So that covers the....I am here on my own bit.
Well the flight over was okay, of course I sat next to a rather large fellow who was practically sitting on top of me - this of course meant I got no sleep and was a tad uncomfortable as he snored his head off. He also had a strange habit of shreading the plane supplied earphones hehehe
Oh well off to the airport and settle in.
We took a walk past the hotel to find a spot to eat. Managed to find The Roxy Palace - a 24hr adult entertainment place - decided to give it a miss.... at least for tonight hehehe
Up this morning, glorious sunny day. Off to breakfast, register for the conference and then out sightseeing.
We went to the Acropolis, stood on the hill Paul preached from (majority of the photos, with friends from school), walked through the Plaka (shopping area), walked in to the Greek Cathedral and finally made a stop at the Parliment buildings to see the changing of the guard outside the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Busy busy day :)

Now starts our walk through the buidlings and down to the Plaka.

And now to the Parliment buildings and the changing of the guard.
Off to Hardrock Café now for some dinner and conference conference conference tomorrow.

this last weekend

Now that the weather is finally warming up a little, we decided to take a walk to the pond and do a little swimming. The night before we'd had a terrible wind - blew down a tree branch or two and of course plastic bags, trash and sticks all over the place :(
So here we are enjoying the walk, feeding the fish, and a swim, in between a little rugby :)
Andre was off to Yanbu today for most of the week.
Girls and I home today because Aimee has bad conjunctivitis and Lucy has a chesty cough that she just can't shake - maybe both have a little to do with the dusty weather ???

And I suppose I should take this opportunity to say Happy Birthday to me - its tomorrow, will be celebrating on my lonesome sadly.....March is a busy month though, happy anniversary to Tammy & Marc, and then all the family birthdays ...happy birthday to Keagan, Bruce, Ashley, Paul, and Ben and of course our 'little' Aimee will turn 8 on the 31st - while I am in Greece. We are celebrating it when I get back thankfully.
ooooo and Steven, not to be left out hehehe you mentioned your earthquake experience a while back.... we're having manmade ones here - Saudi's can't be outdone of course. They have been surveying all over for oil and they use big stampers to create vibrations blah blah blah you get the picture. Of course that means that we have these little tremors every-now-and-again.
What fun !

Annual Walkathon & Hot Dog Day

Last week saw another Walkathon and Hot Dog Day at DEMS.
This year as every year, we continued our support of Qatif Charitable Society - Orphans Committee and a new charity Room to Read through Elementary students sponsored walking. Middle School Students are donating theirs to the Mid-America Transplant Association in our previous principal's name, Mr. Bruce Hudson.
We started bright and early Wednesday 18th March, with an all-school photo in our shirts donated by Power Cow and our PTG - nice bright orange :)
And then the "race" began - well we know its not a race but.....

.

All done and back to the classroom for an hour or two before we get together again for some lunch - Hot Dog Day, thankyou to Tamimi for donating the Hot Dog lunches. The money raised from this goes (although the hot dogs are donated, students and parents purchase lunch) to the PTG which in turn then goes towards students, classrooms etc. mmmm we do look a little pooped - those laps take it out of you a little hehehe

psst.... the blue you might notice on Lucy's forehead is as a result of handing her over to some of my middle school students to do the walkathon. They had a ball signing each other's shirts....in non-permanent marker which somehow got rubbed off on Lucy's forehead :(

Well fun day and all and now its to collection of all those funds. Ooooh forgot to mention, the course/lap is just about a mile and our two managed ...... Lucy : 3 laps and Aimee : 4 laps - of course costs us a fortune now in sponsorship cos we didn't bank on that many hehehe
