Nothing much happening round here, work work work, school school school, rugby rugby rugby.
I spent this last weekend (well obviously not the last one hehehe, I'm a bit behind the times) in Bahrain for a conference on MAPS - a testing system - very cool.
The girls stayed with dad and did some stuff around the compound, and obviously Andre spent as much time as he could watching rugby :)
I arrived back and had to get my passport off quickly to the travel agent to send to the Greek embassy to get a my visa for the Spring Conference end of the month. Home quick to watch the Sharks win yet another game....yay still unbeaten !

Reading Month @ DEMS
Every year we have a reading month at school. Students from preschool to grade eight are encouraged to record the pages and time they spend with books during the three weeks. These records are used to award prizes to various age groups at the end of the month - Lusy won a second place in her class for number of pages read in the month (hers were mostly read to her which is fine). Also during the month, we have guest readers in classrooms, fun days like -wearing readable clothing to school, getting "caught reading" spot prizes and other special activities like Read-The-Day-Aways - this is where students come to school in pj's with a cuddly toy and pillow and pretty much spend the day reading in the classroom. Students are also invited as guest readers to other classrooms - Lucy had grade 8 students come and read to her class and Aimee's class visited the preschool to read to them.
The month is finished off with a character parade. Students and staff members dress up as characters from books and parade to the LRC to have a special reading time before lunch. Obviously now mom must rush around and come up with a decent recognizeable costume for each of them :( Last minute dash, Aimee went as "Amy the Amethyst Fairy" and Lucy as "Lucy the Diamond Fairy".

a sporting week
Hello everybody :) I know I know its been a while, hey the last post explained it, life she is a busy business.
Well the last week or so has had sport as a highlight for most of us.
André got to go to the F1 testing in Bahrain last Saturday. Hehehe, I called to see how his day was going and to check if he'd gotten to the track .... didn't need to ask the question though, as soon as he answered the phone, a car went past, we had to wait a minute before we could hear anything hehehe very cool ! of course nothing can top seeing Schumi up close, driving in and winning the first Bahrain Grand Prix but cool nonetheless.
Every year our school gets invited to participate in a sports day with the British school on campus. Not anything like our sports days back home. Fun races, everyone participates in at least one.
Lucy's was on Sunday and Aimee's on Monday. Both were very chuffed that dad made it to school to watch - stick-in-the-mud wouldn't take part in any of the parent races though hehehe excuse was that he was taking photos :)
Mom couldn't make it as she was teaching big kids, girls didn't seem to mind though, dad was there !
And finally, well rugby, its Super 14 and even though The Sharks had a bye this last weekend, there are plenty other teams to watch :)
That's us for now then, weekend is done, Survivor Fiji about to start as well as the Cheetahs vs Waikato Chiefs game. Have a good one til we pass this way again :)

life is about living
Okay since our last posting, life has just been about living. André was due to head of for a day or two to Yanbu on business again but the technician that would have stayed on, did a runner while on vacation and so André was forced to spend two weeks in Yanbu.
Needless to say the girls and I survived, school keeps us rather busy hehehe. And hence the title, life is about living, nothing exciting going on, just the day to day cycle of wake-up, off to work, come home, homework, bed and it begins again.
Guess the biggest family news happened during & after I chaperoned at our Middle School Valentines dance. Decision time - these girls are never going to a dance, hold me to it ! My goodness teenagers are scary creatures !
André is now home and we had a relaxed weekend at home together. Of course at this stage its mostly about rugby :) Sharks doing reasonably well, hopefully they're just warming up too :)
To all our February birthdays... Ethan, Hanna, Brett, Kim, Gran, Maxi, happy happy, thinking/thought of you on your special day.

this past week...
The week was pretty uneventful. School and work, up in the morning, out the door, home at night, and repeat !
Wednesday however was International Day at school. First thing in the morning, we all dressed up in clothing from/representing our home country, carried flags we'd made and had a parade at school. Throughout the day, students then got to "visit" the many countries represented at our school by visiting displays our wonderful PTG had put together.
Back to school in the evening for dance, music and food from around our world !
Up earlyish on Thursday morning, we headed for Doha to visit Larry and because André had been appointed to ref a Ladies Rugby Tournament Thursday/Friday. Decent drive, we took it slow because of the wet weather, arrived around 3pm. Off to the rugby where the girls had an absolute ball getting thoroughly soaked and muddy.
Back again Friday mid-morning where we got to get a few signatures from some visiting rugby greats. They have been travelling around the gulf doing some coaching and special appearances.

André being the ref appointed to the tournament got everyone organised, and then the games were on again.

(Lucy was pretty pooped and miserable by this stage and was fast asleep minutes after climbing in the car.)
The day was long but absolutely fabulous. We left just before 5pm and thankfully didn't make the detour through Hofuf this time, arrived home just before 9pm. All in all, a good ending to a pretty non-eventful week.
