Goodbye New York........ Hello Los Angeles.
Early start for us - we left the hotel at 4:50am and headed to JFK.
Very helpful United Airlines staff - we were prepared to pay for our luggage but "Mary P" informed us that if we showed our international tickets the luggage charge could be waivered - YAY ! ... cos a surprise was awaiting us in LA.
Thankfully this flight Andre didn't have any special security screening on his ticket so we breezed through - no glass box Cynthia ;)
Excellent flight, wonderful staff - United Airlines are worth recommending.
So we arrive at LAX, head to the shuttle to get to Fox car rental - we booked online through Expedia.com..... to discover that the insurance we had been advised we needed to purchase was essentially useless and we had to purchase new. This meant our car rental for LA is double what we expected - yikes ! Sorry no LA souvenirs folks ;)
GPS was brilliant, we headed straight to our hotel : Holiday Inn Universal Studios. Girls loved driving through Hollywood - spotting the Hollywood sign in the distance and other important landmarks - can't wait to check them out. After checking in we headed (thanks GPS - worth every penny) for Beverley Center to pick up our LA Cards. Then down to Santa Monica Pier where we had a quick walk around, bite to eat and watched some street performers. No photos, all bags at the hotel - means we will definitely be back for a visit :) Wind coming off the water was a bit chill so we only stayed an hour or two.
Evening has been sent at the hotel, catching up on laundry etc.
LA leg of the big adventure officially begins tomorrow.... watch this space :)
